SOILS CLIMATE SITES Wine is bottled poetry. ROBERT L. STEVENSON OUR WINES TASTE OF SUN AND HOLIDAYS Our winegrowing estate is located in the heart of Rheinhessen, the largest winegrowing region of Germany. Here the interplay of soils, climate and locations creates the optimal conditions for wonderful and unique wines. Our soils. The history of the winegrowing region Rheinhessen dates back 20 million years to the Tertiary when the region was flooded by the Primordial Sea. The receding sea left valuable oyster banks and shell limestone deposits behind, which account for the mineral character of our wines with their lively and at the same time harmonious acidity. Later deposits include fertile, nutrient-rich soil components like loam, loess, and airborne sands that give our wines a full-bodied taste and great cellaring potential. In other locations wind and rain contribute to the re-emergence of the oldest soil layers, such as the so-called ‘Rotliegende’. Our climate, a gift from heaven and earth Rheinhessen has a very special climate. The neighboring regions Odenwald, Taunus, Hunsrück and Pfälzer Bergland hold a protective hand over us. Winds and rain are slowed down or kept off completely. Warm air can freely enter Rheinhessen from the South and these unique climatic conditions – dry, warm and delicious – can be tasted in our wines which capture a distinctive holiday spirit that can also be experienced in our daily life. Our vineyards. The mixture does it. Different soils, different sun exposures and slope gradients lead to ever new combinations which resonate in each and every glass. This is what makes our wines so exceptionally tasty and interesting, while the resulting extraordinary diversity enables the selection of a suitable wine for every taste and occasion: Albiger Hundskopf The Albiger Hundskopf is a wind-open southwest-facing slope with an up to 45° incline and optimal sun exposure. The chalky soil with rich clay components promotes optimal water and heat storage. This soil and the slope provide ideal conditions for the growth of mineral wines with great ageing potential. Our single-site Riesling wine grows on the Rotliegend. Albiger Schloss Hammerstein The Albiger Schloss Hammerstein vineyard was mentioned for the first time in a document in 767 on the occasion of its donation to the Lorch Monastery. The ruin located on the vineyard Schloss Hammerstein speaks of Roman times. The Romans already knew that outstanding wines could be grown on this soil with its high proportion of limestone that was shaped by the primordial sea. The exciting microclimatic conditions give us wines with a harmonious and at the same time stable acidity and ripe fruit. Spiesheimer Osterberg The Spiesheimer Osterberg is a south-facing slope with excellent microclimatic conditions protected from north and west. The soil consists of deep clay marl and produces elegant wines with fine fruit aromas and marked persistence and length.

- TRADITION | Jung & Knobloch
TRADITION SINCE 1813 Wine gives pleasure to a person´s heart THE BIBLE Tradition and Innovation – two poles which characterize us In 1813 Konrad Knobloch bought the distinctive wine press which continues to be the emblem of our family tradition. Until today the original wine press has a place on the premises of our winery and served as the inspiration for the design of our logo. Both buildings and wine barrels have moving stories to tell. A tour through the impressive wine cellar invites the visitor to marvel at the successful integration of old and new elements. Again and again new ideas, smart decisions and an extra portion of blessings have shaped the history of our wine estate. The foundation of tradition and experience is the basis upon which we can meet the challenges of today with responsibility, courage, innovative spirit and creative drive. - ICE WINE | Jung & Knobloch
Up ICE WINE Ice wine 2018 – harvested at total lunar eclipse on 21 January 2019 We have been waiting for this moment for 10 years. In autumn 2018 we took the risk and decided to leave 3 different grape varieties on the vine – without knowing what was going to happen.... Albig January 21, 2019. We spent a very restless night because we permanently had to keep an eye on our thermometer. At 4:00 Tobias Jung drove through the vineyards. Minus 12° Celsius! We had been waiting so long for this day! At 5:00 wakeup call for all of the children. At 6:00 meeting point for all volunteers in the courtyard. This interesting group moved together through the vineyards: kids, secretaries, cellar master and field workers. The harvest could start! Have you ever heard a nicer sound than frozen grapes falling into a bucket? It was extremely dark outside. Total lunar eclipse - a once-in-a-lifetime-event. All of our volunteers were fascinated by this unique spectacle of nature. Around 7:30 the moon left the shadow of the earth. Shortly afterwards the sun rose behind the vineyards. This extraordinary ice wine harvest will leave an unforgettable impression in our hearts and on our tongues! At 9:00 the naturally frozen grapes went to be pressed and stored in tanks. Cellar master Jan Blätz attended the ice wine harvest for the first time. For Tobias Jung it was already the 4th vintage and he benefitted from his extensive experience in ice winemaking, which has been passed down from generation to generation. On 13 May 2019 the ice wine was finally bottled. This special ice wine embodies a concentration of high risk, severe frost, intensive manual work, total lunar eclipse und masterful knowledge . A masterpiece of winemaking! 397 Huxelrebe Ice wine - Albiger Petersberg 398 Riesling Ice wine - Albiger Hundskopf 196 Cabernet Mitos Ice wine - Albiger Hundskopf >
- QUALITY LEVELS | Jung & Knobloch
QUALITY LEVELS Do something good to your body so that your soul enjoys living. THERESA VON AVILLA OUR WINES, QUALITY AT EVERY LEVEL. Our wines are: as diverse and unique as the soils and the people here at the heart of Rheinhessen. as sustainable as we wish the future of our descendents to be as high quality as befits this heavenly product All of our wines grow on our own vineyards, mature in our cellar and are filled into the wine bottle on our premises. We vouch with our name for the quality of our wines. QUALITY PYRAMID BY VINEYARD WINES FROM DRY TO OFF-DRY (SEMI-DRY) It is with gratitude, experience and respect for the treasures of nature that we classify our dry and semi-dry wines in dependence on their origin. The more individual the origin of the wine is, the higher is the quality. Following the French model for wine appellation we distinguish between estate, local and site wines. SITE WINES (Lagenwein) Top quality wines from our best single sites. Low yields and selective hand-picking shape these complex wines with special site characteristics and excellent ageing potential. LOCAL WINES (Ortswein) Elegant and powerful varietal wines shaped by the microclimate of our village. ESTATE WINE (Gutswein) Sophisticated wines for every day - fruity, palatable and uncomplicated. QUALITY PYRAMID BY PREDIKAT LEVELS MILD TO NOBLE SWEET WINES Our fruity and noble sweet wines are designated according to the fructose content (=Oechsle) of the grapes. The higher the Oechsle degrees, the higher the quality of the wine. The Prädikat levels (ripeness level designation) Kabinett (literally “cabinet”, Spätlese (late harvest), Auslese(select harvest), Beerenauslese(select berry harvest) and Eiswein(ice wine) serve to qualify the described quality levels). TROCKENBEERENAUSLESE (select dry berry harvest) - EDELSÜSS For the highest Prädikat level, must weight above 150 degrees oechsle, the berries are shrunk to the size of raisins. Trockenbeerenauslese is characterized by an extremely high concentration, amber color and highly complex aromas. EISWEINE (ice wine) - EDELSÜSS Eiswein is made from berries which are frozen on the vine at the time of the harvest as well as during pressing (-10°). Ice wine making is not possible every year, requires great experience and is not achieved without risk - all of which make it a particular specialty. BEERENAUSLESE (dry berry selection) - EDELSÜSS Must weight 121-150 Individual noble sweet berries are harvested by hand. Beerenauslese inspires with a high concentration of fruit aromas and sweetness. AUSLESE (selection) - EDELSÜSS Must weight 100 – 120 degrees Oechsle. Made exclusively from overripe berries often affected by noble rot. Auslese wines inspire with their abundance of fruit aromas. SPÄTLESE (late harvest) Minimum must weight 90 – 100 degrees Oechsle; ripe wines which impress with their abundance of fruit aromas. KABINETT UND QUALITY WINES Must weight 90 degrees Oechsle. Light, varietal fruity wines, frequently with low alcohol content.

SUSTAINABILITY There is truth in wine and truth is wherever glasses are clinked. FRIEDRICH HEGEL SUSTAINABILTY IS MORE THAN JUST A TRENDY TERM FOR US To shape the future and to assume responsibility – that is our mission as human beings, as entrepreneurs and as Christians. For these reasons we act in a sustainable manner by conviction and for the future of our children. Our commitment is manifest in the areas of ecology, economy and in the social sectors. Reason is the measure of all things determining our actions. Ecology and social commitment have to be viewed and planned with a long-term perspective; at the same time they have to be economically viable so as not to be achieved at the expense of our employees and their families. Sustainable action therefore means for us to always be looking for solutions that enable us to reconcile these aspects with each other. The lived respect for humans and nature is part of our DNA and has shaped our family for generations. For more than 200 years we have striven to protect nature, conserve resources, and promote fellow human beings, while consistently continuing to develop the quality and diversity of our wines.
